For this conversion of a barn into guest accommodation, I created a series of small private gardens for each unit, as well as a generous socialising area. I chose to complement the old barn’s beautiful aged materials with a modern paving solution. The overall space is zoned to provide each guest with a private space to enjoy a quiet moment on their doorstep, and there is also a communal area divided into two spaces – one for social cooking with BBQ, pizza oven and dining tables; and the other for relaxation on the comfortable lounging sofas in front of the fireplace. Colourful planting beds and raised planters soften the hard landscaping and act as living screens, to create outdoor rooms.
